What is Affordable Housing?
Affordable housing is for people who are unable to rent or buy on the open market. This includes social rented housing, new build Homebuy, shared ownership and other forms of sub-market affordable housing e.g. sub-market rented or shared equity.
Affordable Housing is broken down into 3 sections; Affordable Rented Housing, Affordable Home Ownership & The HomeBuy Scheme.

Sedgemoor's Affordable Housing Team
The Council has a small team dedicated to enabling the sustained delivery of new affordable housing. This team has overseen a significant improvement in the numbers of new affordable homes being delivered in recent years. There are ambitious proposals in place for 2009-11 to deliver increased numbers of new homes.

Housing Stock

Letting of Council Garages
There are approximately 1,500 council owned block garages available to rent in a variety of locations around the Sedgemoor District. Anyone can apply to rent a council garage but we give priority to existing Council tenants. You will not be offered a garage if you have rent arrears.

Right to Buy Scheme
Under the Right to Buy scheme, you may be able to buy your Council home at a price lower than the full market value. The Right to Buy scheme is statutory and may give you as a tenant the right to purchase your home at a discount.
